Nikki Juen is a Co-Director of Brick x Brick (brickxbrick.org). Juen is a designer, educator, and activist interested in the spaces where these practices overlap. Juen served for 13 years as a lecturer and critic in the Division of Experimental and Foundation Studies at Rhode Island School of Design where she is the 2019 recipient of The John R. Frazier Award for Excellence in Teaching. She is a GDUSA Magazine Educator to Watch, 2018. As a founding faculty member of the MFA in Graphic Design at Vermont College of Fine Arts Juen’s research focuses on decolonized pedagogies and representation in faculty bodies. In the fall she will join the faculty at Roger Williams University as Assistant Professor of Graphic Design. Her classes, workshops, and mentorships explore the development of the individual through the culture-producing roles of design in society. With over two decades of experience as a designer, she helps non-profits, institutions, and individuals develop attentive and holistic understanding of their intention, function, and efficacy. Juen recently spoke to 200 designers in Chicago on International Women’s Day as part of the American Institute of Graphic Arts initiative, Women in Design: Leading with Intent and Integrity.
